Antibiotics work very well for bacterial infection. However, professionals and the public are becoming more and more concerned about their side effects, including alternation of normal immune function and destruction of beneficial microbial populations. In addition resistance to antibiotics is growing. Fortunately, herbal medicines are effective alternatives in many situations. Recent studies show that herbal medicines have both a strong anti-bacterial effect and are beneficial to gut flora. In TCVM, bacterial infection is often considered as heat pattern. The key to treatment of bacterial infection is to clear heat.
This herbal formula is based on classical formulas for heat pattern, and has been modified following more recent research. It can be used for any type of bacterial infection. It can be also used prophylactically to prevent infections, such as patients with acute or chronic immune deficiencies, following severe illness or surgery, and during chemotherapy to prevent bacterial infections.
