Equine Liver Support
INTRODUCTION:
The liver is the primary organ of detoxification in the body. There are two main phases of biochemical detoxification and it is important to have both phases functioning and in balance between each other. Phase I involves the cytochrome P-450 oxidative enzymes to chemically oxidize, reduce, hydrate, hydrolyze or dehalogenate the toxin. Phase II is a conjugation phase with sulfates and glutathione, converting the fat soluble toxin to a water soluble one for easy elimination from the body. |

CLINICAL SIGNS
Icterus, PU/PD in severe cases, weight loss, poor coat. |
| ADDITIONAL INDICATIONS |
| Coat may be dry, quality of the feet may be poor, symptoms such as arthritis and allergies have been linked to poor liver function in human functional medicine. Tendon and ligaments may not be healthy. The use of corticosteroids can induce the phase I enzymes, but if phase II detoxification is effective, there can be a build-up of unconjugated compounds that are often more toxic than their predecessors. This imbalance of detoxification can worsen the patients condition This formula is intended to balance liver detoxification as well as enhancing it. |
| LABORATORY AND OTHER TESTS |
| Blood chemistry, CBC, diagnostic ultrasound, Chinese pulse diagnosis, careful history of exposure to chemicals, including herbicide and pesticide use on neighboring farms and overhead fly spray systems. |
| CAUTION |
| It is possible that some horses will detoxify through their skin. If that is happening, the skin will look worse for several weeks, and could develop eruptions. Continue using for at least several weeks after this occurs to complete the reaction. |
| DOSAGE |
| 1 scoop bid. |
| COURSE |
| Use a loading dose of one scoop for 3 weeks, then, if desired, reduce the dose to ½ scoop bid for long-term maintenance.
