Chronic vomiting is a common clinical symptom and can occur in many different types of diseases. In TCVM, the upward movement of stomach qi induces vomiting. Physiologically, stomach qi should go downward. This disorder of qi flow in chronic vomiting is mainly caused by spleen qi deficiency with stagnation of damp and/or food. The patient has sluggish digestion, vomiting of food either immediately or several hours after eating, vomiting of water or mucus, variable appetite, weak abdominal muscle tone and fatigue. The key to treatment of chronic vomiting is to tonify spleen qi, move stomach qi downward, and relieve stagnation of food and/or damp.
This herbal formula is designed for chronic vomiting due to spleen qi deficiency with stagnation of damp and food. It is also helpful for liver and spleen disharmonies, which include burping, flatulence, stomach or abdominal pain that is worse in cold or damp weather.
