Veterinarian's Desk Reference of Natural Medicines

In response to the growing demand by the veterinary community for information on alternative medicine and nutraceuticals, the doctors at The Veterinary Institute of Integrative Medicine have produced the Veterinarian's Desk Reference of Natural Medicines (VDR). The VDR provides a comprehensive manual for veterinarians using nutritional supplementation.

This guide is intended to be used by licensed veterinarians only. While pet owners may find this information useful, they should not attempt to self-diagnose their animal friends. The Veterinary Institute of Integrative Medicine always recommends that your animal’s healthcare be directed under the guidance of a veterinarian.

Here are some tips for using the VDR:

  • The VDR is divided into two sections, Section I for feline and canine, Section II for equine disorders.
  • When using the online version, the Table of Contents appears on the left side of your screen. Click on a topic to go to that page.
  • The superscript number following the product name refers to the manufacturer of that product. Click on the number to find out more about the manufacturer; use the back button to return to the page you were viewing.

To view the VDR online, click here.

To view the VDR in .pdf format, click here. (Requires Adobe Acrobat reader)

Printed copies of the VDR are available free of charge to licensed veterinarians or their offices. To obtain a copy, click here to complete a request form.

Attention Vet Schools and Hospitals:

Bulk copies of the 3rd edition of the VDR are available to schools and hospitals. The 3rd edition includes a supplement with the newest products listed on it. Order as many copies as you need by emailing Office@viim.org.

COMMENTS WELCOME! Let us know what you think about the VDR. Send us an email with your comments.
